The
different types of bass fish and some fishing tips to catch more
Bass
fish of the Moronidae family (similar to the perch family) have many
members. It is important to keep this diversity in mind when looking
for good fishing tips. Types of bass fish include the Australian,
white, yellow, striped, spotted, rock, largemouth, smallmouth, hybrid,
and European varieties. Fishing tips for bass depend on
whether the species inhabits saltwater, freshwater, or both.
When
pursuing a bass fish that lives only in freshwater – lakes, streams,
and rivers - fishing tips include using trolling and spinning methods
for the larger varieties (like the stripers and largemouth bass), and
spinning or fly fishing for smaller species such as yellow and white.
When
trying to catch a bass fish that lives in saltwater or migrates there
when it is not spawning, fishing tips include surfcasting near
estuaries, uptide fishing, and near-shore trolling. Many members of
this family, such as the white perch, live close inshore while in the
ocean, so you would be best off fishing in shallow waters just off the
coast.
Bass
fish are energetic predators and they will eat most kinds of bait, so
fishing tips include enticing them with both living treats, such as
minnows and worms, as well as artificial lures that mimic these prey
foods. Some species of bass are rarely hungry, so an angler counts on their
natural aggressiveness in order to catch them. Sometimes they don’t
want dinner; they just can’t resist the strike if your presentation is
ideal.
