Fishing Waders - Shopping Tips
Fishing waders are an essential item for certain
kinds of angling, and they can usually be purchased at your local
sporting goods store or through a catalogue. Fishing waders protect
your body from the cold and wet, and their buoyancy can even save an
angler’s life in some situations. This is one purchase to take
seriously when you visit a sporting goods store.
Fishing waders come in two styles: hip high and chest high. A typical
sporting goods store carries a wide variety of both, but if
not you can look online or order from a catalogue. Of course, some
bait & tackle shops will also carry waders. Pay close attention to the
boots when deciding. They should be able to hold you steady in a fast
current and prevent slippage over slimy, submerged mud, rocks, and
tree limbs.
Do you really need fishing waders?
When
selecting fishing waders at a sporting goods store, consider first
what kind of environment and season you do most of your angling in. If
you are mostly a winter angler or one who prefers cold mountain
streams full of trout or salmon, then you should get insulated chest
high overalls. On the other hand, if you enjoy summer action in
shallower waters, thigh high waders that convert easily into boots may
be the ticket.
Some
anglers do not require fishing waders and can simply invest in a good
pair of boots at the sporting goods store or tackle shop. The boot
soles are extremely important, and typically you can select from felt
(great for slippery surfaces and treading silently), studded (great
for walking across difficult non-aqueous terrain), and rubber (not
recommended in water that might be hiding slippery rocks or tree
limbs).
