Saltwater Fishing
tips -
Blue Marlin

Saltwater fishing
is one of the world’s most exciting sports, especially when pursuing
the beautiful blue marlin. However, saltwater fishing is also one of
the most expensive activities, and the pursuit of a blue marlin can
cost a big-game fisherman thousands of dollars. Specialized boats are
needed to pursue these big fish (a group that also includes the
swordfish, the sailfish, tuna, and the shark), and at least two people
are needed to catch and bring them in.
Saltwater fishing
boats must have oversized cockpits, outriggers, hoists, live wells for
bait, and a fighting chair even to have a chance of landing a blue
marlin. Most of these craft also come equipped with ship-to-shore
communication systems, navigational hardware, and depth-sounding
mechanisms. This all adds up, and you'll find that renting an all-day
charter will cost you a pretty penny. But it's worth it!

- Blue Marlin Tips
When going on a
saltwater fishing expedition for the blue marlin, having a properly
equipped boat is just the beginning. Your tackle must be able to
handle the potential of extreme weights, as these big fish can vary
widely in size. A good charter will carry several different sized
cables, reels, and test outfits, just in case you hook a monster.
More often than
not, saltwater fishing of any kind requires live bait. Blue marlin
have been known to strike at some artificial lures, like the Japanese
feather lure, but you're better off using small fish or filets of dead
fish. And make sure you have lots of time on your hands. Even if you
do snag one of these fish, it may take hours to reel it in. But then,
the legendary fight is why you go after a marlin in the first place!
