Hot trout
fishing tip

If you’ve done any trout fishing, you know that they can be tough to
lure into striking. That’s part of the challenge flyfishing anglers
love. There’s a technique you should perfect with nymphs that is a
good all-purpose strategy in various trout fishing conditions. It
takes some practice, but if you want to see your flyfishing results
improve, sometimes dramatically, then grab some nymphs and give this a
whirl.
Try trout fishing
using the ‘dead drift’ flyfishing technique with nymphs

To begin this trout fishing style, stand at a 45-degree angle (or
more) to the upstream flow. Using your flyfishing gear, cast your
line with one of the nymphs you prefer, but only out a short distance.
Try to keep it to no more than a rod-and-a-half in length.
Slowly raise the tip of your trout fishing rod to keep the line length
uniform as the flyfishing lure slips by you on its downstream
journey. Most nymphs sink pretty quickly, so this takes some practice
to get just right. Keep at it!
Now, an important trout fishing rig issue comes into play with this
flyfishing technique, if you’re angling in swift currents or deep
water. Include a small amount of weight about two feet above the
nymphs you use in order to keep it close to the bottom. Be prepared
for fish strikes at the end of the drift.
Finally, as with all trout fishing strategies, the key is presenting
the flyfishing lure naturally, in both movement and habitat. With
nymphs, this means always on or near the bottom, hopping and skipping
along with the current. Practice this ‘dead drift’ strategy often,
and you’ll be amazed at how many more fish you catch.
