Try kayak fishing for yellow perch or bluegill

Have you ever seen
a fat man kayak fishing? Now think of all the overweight fishermen
you’ve seen in your life on the bank or in a fishing boat. Yes, I’m
one of them.
Beside the fact that you can enjoy catching pan fish like yellow
perch, bluegill, and others, kayak fishing is great cardiovascular
exercise. And there are other reasons to try it, as well. You can go
after more than just yellow perch or bluegill, of course, but those
are good species to start with, as you’ll see below.
Tips for safe and
enjoyable kayak fishing
The reason to try
kayak fishing in the beginning for fish like yellow perch and bluegill
is two-fold. First, they’re smaller and thus easier to handle.
Second, you’ll likely catch more of them than one or two, and this
will help you learn how to manage your hauls in the tight confines of
kayaks.
It’s a good idea
before you start kayak fishing to organize and simplify everything:
tackle, paddle leash, PFD (Personal Flotation Device), rod holders,
etc. As you head out to catch yellow perch or bluegill, you’ll want
to make the best use of the limited space inside the watercraft.
Regarding kayak
fishing tackle, just take along the essentials and leave the bulky
tacklebox at home. This is another reason to go after yellow perch
and bluegill – you don’t need lots of lures, just some simple live
bait (worms, night crawlers).
Finally, remember
that kayak fishing includes having to paddle a lot. And you have to
hold your fishing pole while catching yellow perch and bluegill,
obviously. So invest in a simple rod holder to avoid the headache of
needing a third arm.
