Tips on walleye
fishing
with jigs

There are many
ways to engage in successful walleye fishing. And there are a lot of
experts out there who can teach you how to fish for them using
different methods – jigs, live bait, crankbaits, etc. While I’m
certainly no expert on walleye fishing, I’ve done my fair share and I
have my own preferences on how to fish for this species. I have found
bottom-hopping jigs to work best in many conditions.
Enjoy walleye
fishing when you learn how to fish using this specific method with
jigs
First, walleye
fishing methods rely a lot on water conditions. Learning how to fish
for them using jigs includes changing the size and color of the lure
based on finding them in murky vs. clear water.
In muddier waters,
walleye fishing becomes all about finding a way to catch their
attention. This is not easy. It’s important to learn how to fish the
condition by using larger and more colorful roundhead jigs – neon
green, orange, red, even bright white.
In clear water,
walleye fishing requires more subtlety in the lure. Learn how to fish
this scenario by choosing smaller sized jigs in natural colors.
Now that you’ve
picked the right enticers, walleye fishing using this method becomes
all about how to fish with the correct lure action on and near the
bottom of the lake. You’ll need to present your jigs in a certain way
for maximum success.
An important
aspect of walleye fishing is knowing that they hit their prey on the
way down. So, work on how to fish this method by casting jigs out,
letting them sink to the bottom, and jerking them up about a foot or
so with a flick of the wrist. Do not drag the lure! It takes
practice, but you should see results in your walleye success rate very
quickly.
