Striped bass fishing tips

If you’re looking
for a great new fish to pursue, striped bass may just be the ticket.
This species is a perennial favorite of saltwater surfcasting
anglers. To jump-start your pursuit or to improve your existing
skills, I’ve condensed these fishing tips for striped bass angling.
As with all fishing tips, the list is not exhaustive by any stretch,
but I hope they will help you succeed in catching lots of stripers!
Catch more striped
bass with some basic fishing tips
First, the best
way to attract striped bass is to use live bait. It’s the most basic
of fishing tips for all angling: put what they love to eat in front
of them and your chances improve. For this fish, that means eels and
sea worms; fresh cut baits work well, too.
Next, understand
the habits of striped bass to improve your results. Again, basic
fishing tips apply: go where the fish hang out if you want to catch
them. This means mid-range and close-in surfcasting from shore, and
short casts from static structures, like bridges and piers. Keep in
mind that stripers frequent shallow waters.
Probably the most
important striped bass characteristic to understand is that they are
very light sensitive. This leads to potentially the most valuable of
all fishing tips for this species – fish for them at night. And don’t
use a strong lantern or flashlight! You’ll only scare them away.
Finally, realize
that anglers have been catching striped bass for generations. My
grandfather gave me one of the best fishing tips ever, and it’s so
simple: pick the brains of successful fishermen. Knowledge is your
best weapon when pursuing stripers.
