Choose important
fishing equipment with care
Whether you’re a weekend angler or a serious fisherman, your
fishing equipment is probably very important to you. And fish finders just
might be the most important piece of gear out there. With so many to
choose from, this bit of fishing equipment causes a lot of confusion,
especially among first time purchasers of fish finders. Here are some
ideas to consider…
Some fishing
equipment tips for anglers looking into fish finders
First, don’t be overwhelmed when you discover that fishing equipment
stores often carry a wide range of fish finders. There are actually
only a few models that are suitable for the vast majority of amateur
anglers.
Unless you’re a professional fisherman who needs pro grade fishing
equipment, skip the CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) fish finders. They’re the
ones that look like color TVs. You’ll be fine with standard
black-and-white LCD systems.
When you get to the fishing equipment store, look for fish
finders that are inexpensive, waterproof, and can be easily read with
the sun shining on the faceplate. And don’t be sucked into buying a
famous brand name like Garmin or Hummingbird (unless you find a cheaper
one that does the basics).
Finally, knowledgeable fishing equipment support staff should be able
to help you locate fish finders with mid-range frequencies (75-125
KHz). A low frequency finder is made for scanning very deep water and
large areas. High frequency machines are meant to produce very clear
images of a small area. By choosing a middle range, you’ll get some
of both, which should help you in a variety of angling situations.
